The low-cost FAABulous stove uses solar energy and biogas to power a range of domestic appliances.

FAABulous Stove – Khaya Power

The FAABulous stove (fan- assisted appliance base stove) is a two-in-one product that provides energy for domestic electricity and heating without candles, wood or paraffin. FAABulous can power a range of appliances, including lights and cellular phones that can be attached to the stove’s bas.

Safe for indoor use – it does not produce any smoke or harmful gases – it is a valuable alternative to traditional health-risk items such as wood fires, paraffin and candles.

The stove can be run off renewable fuel made from wood waste products, a solar-powered battery or a mains power adapter. Made from recycled products such as coffee tins, the stove is easy to assemble and maintain. The pre-punched, flat-pack stoves are assembled in mini community factories.

At Novus Holdings, we do business the sustainable way and the Biomass Boiler reduces our carbon footprint and electricity consumption.

Novus Holdings -Biomass Boiler

Novus Holdings, formerly the Paarl Media Group, is a leader in the printing and manufacturing sector. Recognising the impact of print production processes on natural resources, the Group has invested in a Biomass Boiler project at their flagship plant, Paarl Media Cape. The Boiler works towards creating a carbon neutral footprint for the company while reducing the plant’s electricity consumption.

The Boiler is powered by sustainable biomass, which burns at intense temperatures to generate the steam required to power Paarl Media Cape’s gravure printing presses. As the demand and cost of electricity and fuel escalates, the Boiler is a zero carbon footprint process that results in a 75% reduction on the production of steam.

The project also assists in creating jobs within the local community and benefits small business enterprises through the harvesting of the alien vegetation and subsequent chipping and distribution of wood chips needed to fuel the boiler.

The Biomass Boiler is reducing electricity consumption and helping to create a carbon neutral footprint.

When it comes to energy efficiency and responsibility, our ComColor printers are revolutionising the printing landscape.

RISO is no stranger to the Eco-Logic Awards, having won the Energy Efficiency Award in 2012 for our pioneer Risolar Project, which enables off-the-grid printing with our digital duplicators. We aimed to change the landscape of education by providing options for rural schools to print materials without access to the energy grid.

Risolar principles are now fully scalable to our ComColor range. These energy-efficient high-speed inkjet printers can be run either entirely off-the-grid or with a solar-powered UPS system. Unlike toner-based technologies, the system uses a heatless imaging process for optimal energy efficiency that easily surpasses other comparable energy star-rated printers.
The low-energy draw of this equipment makes us resilient to power outages during load-shedding, ensuring optimal productivity. This makes our RISO printers ideal for use in both rural and big business environments.

Empowering young minds with our Completely Solar Powered Computer Labs! Because IT Belongs to Everyone!

Solar Powered Computer Lab – giveITback

South Africa’s youth are the cornerstones of our nation and our future leaders. Yet many do not have access to basic computers or connectivity to the internet.

giveITback CC focuses on bridges the digital divide between South Africa’s socio-economic classes. We build our completely off-grid Solar Powered School PC Labs and communIT hubs inside modified shipping containers. These secure, temperature-controlled labs are equipped with features such as internet connectivity, up to 21 computer stations, approved educational software, internet café software, a ceiling mounted projector and an eco-printer.

These labs empower school learners and the community through access to the world of information technology and address the infrastructure needs of underprivileged communities.

The design of our Rosebank Head Office embraces best practices that improve the sustainability of our operations, energy efficiency of the facility and reduce our overall carbon footprint.

30 Baker Street Head Office – Standard Bank of South Africa

Our latest regional head office in Rosebank demonstrates how Standard Bank embraces international best practices to increase our sustainability, improve energy efficiency and reduce our carbon footprint. Our office building in Rosebank, Johannesburg, achieved both a 5-Star design and a 5-Star Green Star rating by the Green Building Council of South Africa (GBCSA). It also won Africa’s Premier Energy Project of the Year for 2015 at the 8th Annual Africa Energy Awards.

The gas powered tri-generation plant produces electricity from natural gas and provides free heating and cooling with pre-conditioned fresh air and use of enthalpy control. DALI and LED lighting systems enable energy efficient operation and maintenance. Triple-glazed glass façades and a remotely activated blind system that tracks the sun to improve natural light and climate control standards. Water is conserved through the use of water efficient fittings, air-chilled cooling systems and rain water harvesting saving 50 percent.
